NOTE: I apologize for the messed up recording. Working on fixing the file and hope to post it tomorrow ASAP.
Well this has been an interesting post! This is now my first Podcast and it was really a learning experience. It took me a while to figure out how to actually do a Podcast and then time just slipped away from me. Somehow everything fell during the same 2 weeks! Who knew? With that aside....enjoy.
UPDATE: August 2, 2012. I have tried something different to try and publish my first podcast on Blogger (and my first podcast in general). I am really going to have to work on podcasting for the future. Have a great weekend everybody and enjoy! I have included the file 2 different ways.
Hi Jamie, please do not feel like you have to publish this comment, but only 50 seconds of your recording was available. Let me know if you need some help. Here is what I used to help me

I can identify with one of the concerns you mentioned in your podcast - teachers in my district are strongly discouraged from networking with students on a personal level while they are still attending Durand Area Schools. I know you can create a group in Facebook that keeps things private and within the group. I know of some teachers in neighboring districts who are using it with their students. They had administrative permission to do so, though. It was great to hear that you have the support of your principal on this. Way to go!
ReplyDeleteI am excited to have my upper elementary teachers use Facebook and Twitter in the same way in the upcoming school year as you mentioned by creating a group off Facebook or Twitter feed for the class. Since so many of these are available as Apps to mobile phones now students and parents can have information pushed to them instead of them going to the information. I am so excited about this mode of communication as we have been trying to communicate through Google sites through teacher websites. We are not having success. Great idea and I will certainly get an admin stamp of approval first.
ReplyDeleteI like where you are taking this project! It was important to show student and adults the possibilities of Facebook and Twitter beyond the social aspect. These technologies are limited by the use of our imagination. Having a separate Facebook group will help differentiate it from your personal part. Also this is where the lists aspect of what we discussed about Twitter is handy. You can create a list for your class and one for parent, this way you can keep the tweets separate. At the same time a good example to use with kids to show how what they put is accessible is to inform them that their parents can see what they post. I think that you're heading in the right direction and this seems very exciting. Have you also though of connecting with some parents to get their buy-in?
